We are Water’s Edge are committed to making dental care available to everyone. That is why we partnered with the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP). The CDCP is a federal government initiative to help those who normally wouldn’t have access to affordable services gain options to oral health care. Can the Canadian Dental Care Plan help me?

The CDCP is designed to help Canadian citizens who are low-income and have no access to dental insurance either privately or through an employer. The goal is to improve oral health, which could improve overall physical health and provide an improved quality of life. At Water’s Edge, we submit your CDCP dental claims directly to Sun Life, who administers CDCP.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Canadian Dental Care Plan

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a new program, so we know everyone will have questions. We wanted to provide a section that answers the most-asked questions regarding the CDCP and provide help for those in the program.
What is the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?
The CDCP is a federally-initiated and funded program to help low-income and other targeted populations to gain affordable access to dental care. It specifically was designed for people who didn’t have private dental insurance and couldn’t get it through an employer.

Eligibility is determined by the government. You must apply and then you will get a letter of determination. Qualifying factors include:
No access to a private dental insurance plan.
An adjusted family net income of less than $90,000.
Canadian residency and filing up-to-date taxes.
Most recent tax returns are filed.
The Government of Canada webpage has detailed an updated information.

The application process was phased in age groups determined by the Government of Canada. You can apply online or by phone at any time but will face questions about prior insurance and why you didn’t apply during the specified periods. There is a waiting period for Sun Life, the CDCP administrator, to approve your application. It will give you a welcome package if approved.
The CDCP provides payment to partnering dental practices for most basic dental services. This includes preventive treatments, cleaning, and exams. It also provides some restoration procedures and required surgeries. Our dental staff will check before a procedure to make sure it’s included.
It is incredibly easy to use CDCP benefits at Water’s Edge. Let our staff know you have CDCP coverage when you make an appointment. We will check your benefits. Present your CDCP member card when you arrive for your appointment. We bill Sun Life directly.
You may need to pay a co-payment. It depends on how the CDCP determines your coverage. Those with higher family incomes are usually required to pay a co-payment for some services. That information specific to your family should be in your CDCP welcome packet.
The best and most reliable information comes from Canadian Dental Care Plan, Canadian Government website. We can answer many of your questions about how to use the CDCP for services in our clinic.
